Life & Career Milestones
My path in life has been direct
1.
I started my educational journey in Mexico at the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana where I studied economics.
2.
I came to the United States but was undocumented, so I had to pause my educational journey and work restaurant jobs.
3.
Once I was able to finish my education, I earned my bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Minnesota.
4.
After graduating, I started my career as the director of economic development for the Northeast Community Development Corporation.
5.
During the 2008 recession, our organization lost funding and we were encouraged to find other jobs, so I pivoted into government and got a job working for Senator Amy Klobuchar.
6.
I spent four years working for Senator Klobuchar and then moved on to work as a senior policy aide for Mayor Betsy Hodges.
7.
After that, I joined the University of Minnesota as the director of community and local government relations.
8.
When a position opened up at the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis, I jumped at the opportunity—I currently work here as the regional outreach director.
Defining Moments
Experiences and challenges that shaped me
When I came to the United States, I was undocumented, so I had to pause my educational journey for seven years and work restaurant jobs. It was discouraging but I kept sight on where I wanted to be and was eventually able to earn my degree.
