Life & Career Milestones
My path in life has been direct
1.
I moved from upstate New York to Las Vegas during my senior year of high school and witnessed firsthand the stark differences in education systems across the country.
2.
I started out in business administration at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, but quickly realized my true passion was in early childhood education, thanks to a push from my mom.
3.
After six challenging years, I earned my bachelor’s degree from UNLV, becoming the first in my family to graduate college.
4.
My early teaching career in Title I schools highlighted the lack of Black male educators in the classroom, a role I proudly embraced despite societal expectations.
5.
I transitioned into administration, driven by a desire to influence the education system beyond the classroom, and eventually earned a doctorate in educational leadership.
6.
My work with the Classroom on Wheels program and Andre Agassi College Prep allowed me to innovate and advocate for quality education amongst Las Vegas's underserved communities.
7.
Leading the local Head Start program, I managed 13 sites to ensure that thousands of children received high-quality early childhood education.
8.
My ultimate goal is to see every child in Nevada have access to high-quality early learning, laying a foundation for their lifelong success.
Defining Moments
Experiences and challenges that shaped me
I was the first in my family to go to college. Learning all of the ins and outs without much guidance was tough. It took me a while to figure things out but once I got my bachelor's degree, I was motivated to continue my journey of lifelong learning.
