Born and raised in the rough part of Yonkers NY. Grew up poor without many essentials.
2.
Moved around a lot as a child, attended 4 different elementary schools.
3.
Started working at McDonalds the day after I turned 16. Moved up to manager at the age of 17.
4.
Took a second job as a bank teller as a joke and quickly fell in love with banking.
5.
Made the decision to take less money and go work full time at the bank.
6.
Within 2 years worked my way up to Branch Manager. Here I am 16 plus years later.
Defining Moments
How I responded to discouragement
THE NOISE
Messages from Society in general:
You'll end up in a gang, on drugs or dead.
How I responded:
Growing up in an area where you are surrounded by drugs and gangs forces you to make a decision. I sat down and reflected on what type of life I wanted, I didn't want to continue to run with the wrong crowd, drinking and smoking just to end up like everyone around me. I chose to change my ways and do something with my life. I used all the negativity around me as motivation! Motivation to have and to do the complete opposite of all the wrong around me. Take the negative and make it benefit you!
Experiences and challenges that shaped me
Growing up without much makes you appreciate the stuff you buy for yourself much more. Not being able to have all the cool things at that time is ok, remember when you have the means to buy your own cool things you will appreciate them more.
Gangs are not family, they will destroy you in every way. A brother will not put you in harms way, remember that. Getting out isn't easy but it is possible. Best advice is never to join in the first place.
