Defining Moments

How I responded to discouragement

  • THE NOISE

    Messages from Parents:

You shouldn't try to be an artist because you won't make enough money and it's very difficult, you should learn a trade or go to college for something specific.

  • How I responded:

Everything I did was done with my artistry intact. I can't be something I'm not. I get paid for being an artist and I always have - always will. I have never been totally unemployed. I have, for the most part, had too much work!

Experiences and challenges that shaped me

  • Employers looking for long term stable employees don't hire military spouses - we move a lot - we often get the jobs no one wants or that are short term jobs. I created my own job by being a freelance artist - the internet helped me do this!
