Defining Moments
How I responded to discouragement
THE NOISE
Messages from Myself:
I've never really had much discouragement from people around me. The main distractions I've seen have been financial hardship that makes you want security over risk. That's tough to ignore.
How I responded:
I always look back to when I had less security and when I lived in pretty rough/footloose circumstances. Things have always had a general upward trend as long as I've put in more than I've taken out, so that's my mindset now. Put it all in. So I now take calculated risks with business. I also have the opinion that if someone loses their 9-5 job, they are back to 0. If I lose a couple of clients, I still have other clients.
Experiences and challenges that shaped me
Knuckle down. I started with $800 and a laptop. I quoted a job for a client and didn't get the job. I did the job anyway. They liked the work and hired me for the next (much bigger) job.
This is minor, I'm actually from the UK, so I'm Caucasian and English is my first language. But I was illegal for a year which forced me to go self employed. I'm so happy it did, once you are self employed you'll never go back to having a boss.
