Defining Moments
How I responded to discouragement
THE NOISE
Messages from Society in general:
You will not make a lot of money in education.
How I responded:
Education is a profession that brings a lot of personal joy and fulfillment. Entry level positions in higher education can have a moderate salary, although it continues to get better. As you advance with your career, you are able to find positions that provide a competitive salary.
Experiences and challenges that shaped me
As a first generation student-I did not know what I was doing as I navigated the college experience. My advice is to ask for help and use the campus resources. It is ok to not know how processes work.
I was responsible for paying for my college education which meant I had to work during college and subsidize my income with student loans to pay for tuition. I left college with debt, however, it was the only way to be able to complete my degree.
